Disney’s ‘Moving’ Wins the Asia Contents Awards at the Busan Film Festival

Disney’s Korean fantasy drama “Moving” emerged as the standout winner at the Busan International Film Festival’s Asia Contents Awards, recognizing excellence in content creation for television and streaming platforms throughout the region.

“Moving,” which has become the most-watched Korean series on Disney+ and Hulu in both Asia and globally, claimed numerous awards at the ceremony. It secured the prestigious Best Creative award, Best Writer for webtoon artist-turned-screenwriter Kang Full, Best Lead Actor for series star Ryu Seung-ryong, Best Newcomer Actor for co-star Lee Jung-ha, Best Newcomer Actress for Go Yoon Jung, and Best Visual Effects. “Moving” revolves around a group of South Korean spies striving to safeguard their super-powered children from harm and exploitation by nefarious government agencies. The series has garnered acclaim for its captivating fusion of genres and inventive approach to the superhero narrative.

The Busan festival, recognized as the most influential film event in Asia, introduced the Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards in 2019 to acknowledge and celebrate the growing popularity of original series production in the region, driven in large part by the arrival of deep-pocketed global streaming platforms.

The awards ceremony, which took place on Sunday, was co-hosted by actor Kim Kang-woo (“The Taste of Money” and “The Missing”) and K-pop star Nancy from the girl group Momoland. The event also featured special performances by singer-songwriter Lee Seung-yoon and K-pop girl group Alice.

Several other awards were distributed among original series from various platforms. The Best OTT Original award went to the high-school drama series “Weak Hero Class 1,” available on Wavve in South Korea and Kocowa, Viki, and IQIYI overseas. Netflix’s popular crime drama “Scoop” secured two trophies, including Best Asian TV Series and Best Lead Actress for star Karishma Tanna. The Best Reality Series honor was shared by Netflix’s hit competition show “Physical: 100” and Meta’s food series “Let’s Feast Vietnam.”
